On the 15th of December 2022, the Danish Refugee Board’s Coordination Committee declared that a lower threshold of persecution should be applied in cases involving Afghan women and girls regarding their risk of persecution. This lower threshold is justified because of the arbitrary exercise of power by the Taliban and the continuing deterioration of living conditions for women and girls in Afghanistan. The Committee stated that this position impacts approximately thirty cases pending before the Refugee Appeals Board. On top of that, the Board will reopen cases in which they decided to refuse a a residence permit and where these women and girls are not yet deported.
