On 12 June 2026, the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum has entered into force. The Pact constitutes a reform of the EU legal framework on migration, asylum, border management and integration, established through ten legislative acts (nine regulations and one directive) adopted in 2024.

Despite a two-year transitional period to facilitate implementation, the European Commission’s third report on the state of implementation of the Pact (8 May 2026) highlights continued delays and persistent challenges across most Member States.

ECRE’s observations regarding the implementation of the Pact can be found here.
